School Council
Meet our wonderful School Councillors at Leamington!
Pupil Leadership
We believe that pupil leadership is an exciting opportunity for the children to have the representation tin school that they deserve.
Our aim is to have young leaders that are role models to others in school and represent their peers at a decision making level.
Councillors vote for and against ideas that are suggested at the weekly meetings and they have a budget that they run alongside Miss Burnett, our School Council lead.
How are our Councillors elected?
At Leamington we teach the children about fundamental British values, democracy being one of them, and we go through an election process.
- Children put their name forward to their class teacher
- They prepare a speech, presentation, song, dance, rap etc to explain to the other children in their class why they should vote for them
- Per class, votes are cast and the child with the greatest majority is the new class councillor
What responsibilities do our School Council have?
- Attending weekly meetings
- Being a behaviour role model in school
- Ensure that they are representing the school even outside of the school gates
- Listening to their peers about whole school issues
How often do the council meet and what do they discuss?
- Meetings for the council are weekly and are chaired by Miss Burnett
Discussions can involve:
- Assemblies for the week and the weekly principle
- Upcoming events
- Issues raised at a class level or greater
- Play times and lunch times
- Feedback from other children
How are messages communicated?
- School Council release a weekly bulleting for the whole school with updates and reminders on to support communication
- School Councillors then deliver this bulletin around school to ensure that everyone has the same message.
