Summer: What is life without colour?
Enquiry
We are currently updating our Summer Enquiry curriculum - come back soon to see what we will be up to!
English
A high-quality text drives each of our enquiries and the texts are used to give knowledge and purpose to the enquiry. High quality texts can only be accessed through knowledge of vocabulary in different tiers. Explicit teaching of new vocabulary and using the classroom environment to showcase key vocabulary helps us to infuse rich and sophisticated vocabulary from EYFS to Year 6. The texts are used as a stimulus for both English and cross curricular writing, ensuring high expectations of our children. Reading is interwoven into all aspects of the enquiry to encourage reading and language development and promote reading for pleasure.
Key Texts
Maths
In maths, we follow the Power Maths programme to support children’s learning and to build a deep understanding of maths concepts. Power Maths is a curriculum mastery programme designed to spark curiosity and excitement and nurture confidence in maths. It is built around a child‑centred lesson design that models and embeds a growth mindset approach to maths.
This term we are covering the following:
Decimals
- Understanding and comparing decimal numbers up to two decimal places.
- Rounding decimals to the nearest whole number.
- Adding and subtracting decimals with the same number of decimal places.
- Solving real-life problems involving money and measurement using decimals.
Measurement: Money
- Converting between pounds (£) and pence (p).
- Adding and subtracting money amounts using both £ and p.
- Solving word problems involving money, including finding totals, calculating change, and comparing amounts.
Time
- Reading, writing, and converting time between analogue and digital clocks (12-hour and 24-hour formats).
- Calculating durations and solving time problems involving start and end times.
- Converting between different units of time (e.g., seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months, years).
- Understanding and solving problems involving time intervals and schedules.
Statistics
- Interpreting and presenting data using bar charts, pictograms, and line graphs.
- Solving problems using data from tables and graphs, including drawing conclusions and making comparisons.
- Reading and interpreting more complex data sets, including time-series data.
Geometry: Properties of Shapes
- Classifying and identifying different types of angles (acute, obtuse, and right angles).
- recognising and drawing parallel and perpendicular lines.
- Identifying and describing 2D shapes, including triangles, quadrilaterals, and polygons, based on their properties.
- Exploring symmetry in 2D shapes and completing symmetrical figures.
Geometry: Position and Direction
- Plotting and reading coordinates in the first quadrant of a grid.
- Describing positions on a grid using coordinate notation (e.g., (2, 3)).
- Understanding and following instructions for translations and movements on a grid.
- Creating and solving problems involving shape movement and symmetry on grids.
Problem Solving and Reasoning
- Applying mathematical knowledge in a range of contexts, including real-life scenarios involving money, time, and geometry.
- Developing strategies to solve multi-step word problems and reasoning tasks.
- Collaborating in group discussions to explain and justify methods and solutions.
