Geography Driver
We have started the year with our Geography driver.... the children will learn how to be a Geographer as well as knowledge linked to understanding their local area, the country and the world. Each enquiry began with a 'hook' to engage the children in exploring the content.
EYFS- the children spent the day as 'explorers', finding their way around their new classrooms and finding out about the local area.
Year 1- Year 1 focussed on what makes them unique, exploring what makes us special and uniques to everyone else.
Year 2- Year 2 made comparisons between England and Peru. They sampled food and experiences and expressed their views and opinions about each.
Year 3- Year 3 became archaeologists, digging for fossils and finding out about volcanoes and life in Italy.
Year 4- Year 4 visited The Mill Adventure Base to discover what life on water is all about. The created rafts and explored the process of floating as a start to their explorations of rivers.
Year 5- Year 5 tasted foods linked to the Amazon Rainforest, in a Bush Bucker trial task! Mealworms, locusts and crickets were on the menu!
Year 6- Year 6 sampled Peruvian activities. Food, weaving and music from this area was explored before looking deeper into the area, linked to Fair Trade.
What a fantastic start to the term!
