Autumn: The Earth is changing – so why should we?
Embark on a thrilling global adventure as we explore the diverse climates, cultures, and landscapes of the UK and the Americas! This term, pupils will become young geographers, learning all about the wonders of North and South America, including a deep dive into Peru—from the bustling streets of Lima to the heart of the Amazon rainforest.
Geography: Exploring Climates and Biomes Pupils will journey through the biomes of the world, discovering rainforests in Brazil, deserts in Egypt, tundras in Iceland, and more. They’ll learn about the different climate zones and weather patterns across the globe—from tropical and temperate to polar and dry climates. We’ll also investigate the causes and impacts of deforestation, examining how activities like farming, logging, and urbanisation affect our planet’s habitats and ecosystems, and why this matters for the future of our world.
PSHCE: Choices and Impact In PSHE, pupils will reflect on their own lives and choices. They’ll learn how their everyday actions—from what they eat and drink to how they treat people from different cultures—can have a real impact on the world around them. This enquiry will help them understand the power of making mindful, positive decisions.
Science: Life Cycles and Adaptation In Science, pupils will dive into the life cycles of animals found in South America, understanding how creatures like mammals, amphibians, birds, and insects grow, develop, and adapt. They’ll also explore the effects of environmental changes on these animals, gaining a deeper appreciation for the delicate balance of nature.
This term is set to be an exciting exploration of the Earth’s diverse environments and the choices we can make to protect and cherish them!
Year 5 Enquiry Knowledge Mat
A high-quality text drives each of our enquiries and the texts are used to give knowledge and purpose to the enquiry. High quality texts can only be accessed through knowledge of vocabulary in different tiers. Explicit teaching of new vocabulary and using the classroom environment to showcase key vocabulary helps us to infuse rich and sophisticated vocabulary from EYFS to Year 6. The texts are used as a stimulus for both English and cross curricular writing, ensuring high expectations of our children. Reading is interwoven into all aspects of the enquiry to encourage reading and language development and promote reading for pleasure.
