Our weekly enquiry questions are:
Week 1: What is the earth made of?
Week 2: What is the earth made of?
Week 3: Where in the world am I?
Week 4: Can the earth break?
Week 5: Can a volcano ever be useful?
Week 6: What's so good about the world anyway?
A high-quality text drives each of our enquiries and the texts are used to give knowledge and purpose to the enquiry. High quality texts can only be accessed through knowledge of vocabulary in different tiers. Explicit teaching of new vocabulary and using the classroom environment to showcase key vocabulary helps us to infuse rich and sophisticated vocabulary from EYFS to Year 6. The texts are used as a stimulus for both English and cross curricular writing, ensuring high expectations of our children. Reading is interweaved into all aspects of the enquiry to encourage reading and language development and promote reading for pleasure.
Autumn 2 English Key Text
Our key text this half term is 'A journey to the Centre of the Earth' by Jules Verne and 'The Firework Makers Daughter' by Philip Pullman. We try to choose high quality texts that relate to the learning taken place. One of our pieces of writing this term is an adventure stories, and so, our two key texts will really assist with this writing.
